Les Invalides ( Veterans' Home)

This is Les Invalides...a veteran's home....pretty snazzy huh? It dates back to the 1670's and was built to house the homeless veterans who were reduced to begging on the streets for a living. Bob was pretty impressed with it...it is quite massive and impressive

There are 18 cannons from the 17th century that line the garden of the Hotel des Invalides. They are fired during special occasions... there were also a couple of tanks on each side of the entrance that they captured from the Germans in 1944. I think I read somewhere that Germany occupied Paris for 4 years during WWII before the allies liberated them......
